What's it Made Of?
At Goodfellows, we've been making cake continuously for more than 110 years, and firmly believe that a celebration cake doesn't just have to look good, it has to taste good as well!
Most cakes from our online Cake Shop are made as standard in our delicious Madeira cake which is subtly layered with a thin layer of buttercream and raspberry jam.
Many, but not all cakes, are also available in our rich and very chocolatey Chocolate Cake, layered with chocolate buttercream! As this is a softer cake, it is not suitable for all cake styles.
Decoration and layout
As we employ a team of decorators, all cakes are unique to some extent, although the layout of the decoration on your cake, and the way in which the message on the cake is applied will match the decoration style shown in the photograph as closely as possible.
How long will my cake keep?
We recommend that our cake is eaten within four days of purchase, although it should keep fine for up to a week as long as it is kept covered (clingfilm or a tupperware), cool and dry (at least out of sunlight or in a cool room at the back of the house, but never in the fridge as the moisture will cause the cake to stale).
How should I cut my cake?
As a good rule of thumb, always use a sharp knife and don't lean down on the blade or this will crush the cake. Let the sharpness of the blade do the work for you, and cut in a gentle sawing motion. If you keep a jug of fairly hot water and dip the knife into it between cuts (then lightly dry it), this will stop the cake from getting too messy and ensure a clean and presentable cut for your guests.
